Skin Care The Organic Way

Healthy skin is an important part of looking and feeling great. We partially breathe through our skin so taking care of your skin is taking care of your body. Organic skin care is using organic material in place of artificial material to take care of your skin. There is little reason to use artificial products when equivalent organic and natural products are available. Some may think that organic skin care products are more expensive, but that is often not the case, specially if you prepare the product from natural material yourself.

Organic products are most easily absorbed through the skin, easily metabolized by the body and any surplus is just as easily discarded. If properly used, organic skin care can prevent skin disorders and keep you looking younger for a long time. But like anything else knowledge is power. You need to educate yourself about the bewildering array of choices available to you in skin care.

Some of the most popular organic skin care products are fruits and vegetables. For example cucumber is a very popular skin products. Apple, papaya, ginger are also form some of the other popular natural skin care products. These natural products have a long-lasting positive effect on your skin, unlike their synthetic equivalents, which may sometimes cause allergies and rashes.

To see what works for you, start experimenting with the recommended natural products and soon you will find what works in your case. It is vital that you use the highest quality organic fruits and vegetables for your skin care. Freshness is also key. Do not skimp on this.

Cucumber is an excellent cleanser. Add cucumber juice to organic milk and use it as a skin cleanser.

Ground oatmeal is a popular skin care product. It is used in combination with other natural ingredients as facial masks. Mix it with yogurt, honey, and ground almonds and apply it as a face mask. This should be left on the face for about 5 minutes, and rinsed afterwards

For oily skin, applying a combination of organic grapes, egg whites, and lemon works great. Leave it on the face for 20 minutes, and then rinse it. This treatment should not be used for dry skin.

To remove skin blemishes, apply carrot juice on a daily basis to your face.

Another popular product is organic honey. It helps to retain moisture and helps give a radiant look to skin.

Beware of claims
Some companies in the skin care industry may make unsubstantiated claims. It is your responsibility to research such claims, and make your own judgment. With the advent of Internet and search engines, there is no longer an excuse off not having proper information; join discussions on the Internet to find out how other people have fared with the ingredients that you have in mind.

Organic skin care is less often science and more off on art; however once you find the formula that works for your skin, it can achieve incredible and long-lasting results, not matched by any artificial skin care.

10 Steps To Younger Looking Skin

Do you know the shortcuts for fabulous skin results in under 60 days?

It's the time of the year we all do some soul searching about things we'd like to change in our personal life . . . from losing weight, starting an exercise plan or setting about cleaning out our closets for spring.

A lot of us just want to look great by the time summer arrives. Unfortunately, the vast majority of us lose our motivation after a week or so. Well, here are ten simple steps to help you achieve at least one of your goals for spring and summer . . .fabulous, younger-looking skin!

Simple Steps...Great Results

Most of the time, it takes common sense combined with personal commitment to achieve our goals. Having fabulous skin is one of those common sense habits. So, I'm outlining a basic care routine that will make an amazing difference in your appearance in 30-45 days!

We're going to begin with basic 'living well' habits that aren't difficult to implement, and will change not only your appearance, but your outlook on life and your overall mental and physical health.

1) Make sure you're eating a healthy diet including LOTS of fresh fruits and vegetables. Cut out empty calories from soft drinks, heavy desserts and snacks throughout the day. If you need to snack, choose fresh apple slices, a handful of nuts or a small serving of popped corn.

2) Hydrate throughout the day. Keep water in a glass container on your desk or counter so it's easy for you to have a drink periodically. Many of us are actually dehydrated and that directly affects the health of our skin.

3) Get plenty of rest. Even though you have lots of last minute things to do before you retire for the night, try to get at least 6-8 hours of rest each night. You'll feel more alert and you'll accomplish your tasks faster because you'll have more energy! It's o.k. to not get everything done. Guess what, we'll never get everything done, so relax.

4) Get 20-30 minutes of regular exercise each day. Do something as simple as walking or going up and down steps. Use a pedometer to measure your steps. Your goal should be to work up to 10,000 steps each day. It is difficult if you're sitting at a desk all day, so use your lunch hour to walk for 15-20 minutes. You'll be amazed how much more energetic you'll feel.

So far I've only mentioned minimal, but necessary, healthy lifestyle habits you can easily incorporate into your daily life: Eating well, drinking lots of water, getting enough rest and incorporating regular exercise into your daily routine.

I also know you're wondering how any of that will make a difference in helping you develop fabulous skin. You'll be surprised how much exercise, healthy food and rest will do for your appearance, but I have several more 'simple steps' designed to specifically address your skin's appearance.

5) Start and end each day with a basic skin care routine. Cleanse with a natural, organic cleanser developed for your skin type. Try to avoid using basic bar soap on your face because it will generally strip away your natural oils so critical to a healthy complexion. I like to recommend an oxygen-based toner because it will continue the cleansing action while it infuses your skin with energy.

If you prefer not to use toner, move directly to the serum and/or moisturizer for your final step(s). Seasonal serums are formulated to deal with various weather and climate changes you encounter. Using a Serum for Spring adds supplemental moisture and minerals to your skin, helping your skin recover its smooth texture and begin to glow. You can layer it under your favorite moisturizer - especially for your night regime. I recommend you layer it under a safe, natural organic SPF15 Sunscreen for daytime.

Complete your regime by adding a fabulous anti-aging Serum to tighten and smooth out any fine lines or wrinkles that are beginning to develop while giving your skin an anti-aging treatment as well.

6) Use a natural organic exfoliator to cleanse away dead cells from your face 1 or 2 times per week. It allows new cells to emerge and you will look fresher and more rested.

7) Use a revitalizing eye gel to help tighten delicate skin under your eyes and eliminate bags and dark circles.

8) Evaluate your daily nutrition. Some skin care products are rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and other nutrition. However you may need to add supplemental dietary support like Omega Oils, fiber or daily vitamins to deal with stress, long days, travel or just your daily schedule.

9) Don't forget to cleanse and moisturize hands frequently. Use an organic hand wash that doesn't strip your hands of moisture as it cleans. Retain/add moisture with a body butter or lotion. Using personal-sized sanitizers/purifiers made with stabilized oxygen rather than alcohol or triclosan through the day will help you avoid airborne viruses or other pathogens from surfaces you use during the day. I suggest you carry a 1oz. pocket mister in your briefcase or purse so it's handy - no matter where you are.

10) Have an 'Attitude of Gratitude' each day! A positive mental outlook shows up in fewer fine lines, frown lines or wrinkles. In short, you'll look as good as your attitude demonstrates you feel.

Think of these as 10 steps to a fresher, younger looking 'YOU'. You'll find changes will appear in 30 - 45 days if you'll consistently follow these simple steps in your life.

Common Procedures For Age Spots

Age spots, or liver spots as some call them, are flat spots found on sun-exposed skin particularly the hands, face, shoulders, arms and forehead. The color of these spots range from light brown to black and can appear on nearly all skin types. Age spots increase with age and with increased UV exposure. From the age of 40 onwards, the skin is less able to regenerate from sun exposure and liver spots become more prominent.

Many people seek cosmetic treatments for these unsightly skin blotches. There are many over-the-counter skin creams that promise to reduce the appearance of age spots, but many are ineffective. New advanced treatments from doctors & plastic surgeons seem to be the most effective. These treatments include laser & light based treatments & chemical peels.

Many doctors, cosmetic professional and medspa around the country have been using chemical peels to effectively treat age spot & other skin problems. In a typical chemical peel procedure, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which causes it to "blister" and eventually peel off. While this sounds harsh, it is typically an effective means to gradually remove skin discolorations and age spots. The most popular chemical peel treatments for age spots include the "TCA" chemical peel, the Glycolic Acid Peel & the Jessner Peel.

Some doctors are offering laser treatments for age & liver spots. Today's laser technology can treat everything from acne scars to spider veins, and are especially effective in treating age spots. The Medlite C6 laser is the most commonly used laser for removing brown age spots, "liver spots", freckles and many brown birthmarks like café au lait patches.

Laser based treatments such as photo facials act similarly to lasers and are equally effective in treating age spots. For example, the Palomar RejuveLux system is a pulsed light system that eliminates pigmented lesions (sunspots or age spots) by delivering a pulse of intense light which passes harmlessly through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the lesion. Other photo facial systems such as the Solar Genesis skin therapy system and the StarLux system also can reduce the appearance of age spots.

Facial Scrubs

In the past, washing your face simply meant taking a wash cloth and scrubbing your face with soap and water and rinsing it off.

These days, washing your face means applying a cleanser, massaging it in, tissuing it off or rinsing it off with water.
Then you soak a cotton ball with a toner to remove all traces of the cleanser and tone your skin.
At least once a week, a facial scrub might be applied before the toner, in which a grainy cream or wash is massaged onto skin to get rid of dirt and slough off dead skin cells to keep skin clear.

Is all that necessary?
Do you really need facial scrubs?

Actually, the old fashioned way of using a wash cloth to scrub your skin is akin to what the facial scrubs do. If you simply cleanse and rinse your skin without sloughing off the dead skin cells, chances are, the skin might get flaky leading to dry looking skin that is dehydrated beneath.

Another possibilitiy is that the debris left behind might clog the pores, giving bacteria the perfect breeding ground which can well lead to acne.

Hence regular scrubs are necessary.

So why buy a scrub when a wash cloth will do?

Personally, I'd rather not use a wash cloth. The thought of bacteria or mould breeding on that wash cloth is enough for me to turn to the first off-the-shelf facial scrub I can find. Sure, use a wash cloth if you intend to send it to the laundry every day and use a fresh wash cloth each day.

Imagine scrubbing your face with the wash cloth. The bacteria and dirt from the skin gets left behind on the cloth. Rinsing it with water wouldn't get rid of all the bacteria and soap. As you leave the washcloth in the bathroom, which I assume, doubles up as the toilet, the bacteria from doing business floats in the air. Bacteria from the air happily breeds on the moist washcloth which you then use to scrub your face at night.

Okay, I sound like a germ phobe and if your skin is fine with that, a wash cloth should do.

Alternatively, you could make your own scrub. I tried that. A tiny jar of powdered almonds makes a good scrub. Dip your fingers into it, add water, mix and you have got a scrub. The problem is the almond powder left in the damp bathroom, mould and bacteria thrive. If you do not take care, the moisture in the scrub introduced by wet fingers encourage mould and bacteria to thrive which can lead to disastrous results if you use it on your skin, since that home made scrub does not contain anything that would kill the mould or bacteria.

Another popular facial scrub is plain old sugar. My skin didn't like it as it was rough. Akin to rubbing sandpaper on your face. Add to the ants that decided to colonize the bathroom, or rather, my sugar scrub, I switched back to store bought facial scrubs
